To learn the commercial driving concepts that will be on the general knowledge test, you need a manual with all of the information. We recommend a two-step system when preparing for the CDL exam. Although some states allow you to take the test multiple times after paying the application fee once, others do not. Failing the exam not means only waiting three to five days to retake the test, but you may also have to pay to take the test again. Nobody wants to leave the DMV office empty handed, so it’s important to prepare for the test with the right study aids.

#GENERAL KNOWLEDGE TEST DRIVING LICENSE#
Again, the general knowledge test is required by ALL CDL applicants regardless of what license type you are pursuing, so it’s essential you focus your efforts on studying for this exam. The regulations require every state to test and verify that each CDL applicant is educated in safe commercial vehicle operation. government implemented a set of minimum standards to measure this in 1986 under the Federal Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Please make sure you take all the tests and have a good understanding of the material before heading out to take the actual exam.It’s important that you pass the general knowledge test to show that you have a full understanding of how to safely operate commercial vehicles. We have 400 questions that pertain to the General Knowledge exam spread out over eight practice tests available free. Our practice tests take the stress out of what questions you will encounter and makes passing a breeze. These questions are all covered by the 2021 Massachusetts CDL drivers’ manual, but it can be confusing and there is a lot of information in the book. If you fail you will not be able to retake the test on the same day, so you will have to make another trip. You will have one hour to complete the General Knowledge test, and will be allowed to miss only 10 questions before you have to start the process over again. The general knowledge test consists of 50 multiple choice questions, and a score of 80% (40 out of 50) or better is required to pass. In order to obtain a CLP (Commercial Learners Permit) which is the first step to getting a CDL, which you will need to operate any commercial vehicle, you will first have to take and pass the General Knowledge test.
